Barbara and Richard Heywood retired and set sail from Hampton Virginia aboard their yacht Breakaway in November 1997.  They sailed across the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and across the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand.  A slight detour took them to Guam en-route to Australia before sailing through Indonesia and Malaysia to Thailand.  After three years in Thailand, they sailed across the Indian Ocean to the Red Sea and then through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean staying in Turkey for eight years and then Greece for two more.  Finally, age ( of the boat ) got the better of them and they sold Breakaway in 2018.  “She became too big and too heavy for two old people”.  In total, they sailed over 50,000 miles.
